Dalit Panchayats

  • Every person in the community is enabled to become part of decision-making, be it youth, women and men.
  • The decision taken is implemented by all in the community.
  • The aspiration and desire is to have the leadership of Dalit Panchayat in the hands of Dalit women.
  • One of the criteria for taking up leadership in the Dalit Panchayat is a total commitment to the community.
  • It means traditional leadership, which is partly with the dominant caste people, has to make its choice.
  • The Dalit Panchayat must help such leaders to get rid of this bondage.

Dalit Panchayat Structure

  • All members of all families, above the age of 18, should naturally become members of Dalit Panchayats.
  • Totally there will be ten leaders in the governing process of the Dalit Panchayat. This number includes the elders, youth and women.
  • Out of the ten, five will be women and five will be men.
  • The presence of five women is a must for every Dalit Panchayat.
  • Each Dalit Panchayat must either elect or appoint a volunteer known as the Booshakthi Sevaka/Sevaki to serve the community.

Resolving Community's Problems

  • The Dalit Panchayat shall address all the problems, issues, concerns, internal conflict, development issues and schemes.
  • They shall put a stop to running to the dominant caste village panchayat for resolving their internal problems. e.g. Husband and wife quarrel.
  • Familial conflicts shall be addressed in the family. If that is not possible then the community intervenes. Because it is no more an individual problem but a community problem. The Dalit Panchayat shall take the decision to resolve the problem.
  • In the same way if the dominant caste people have any problem with the Dalits they should come to the Dalit Panchayat and resolve such issue.
  • If Dalits have problems with the dominant caste, then the Dalits shall go to the village Panchayat for resolving the issue.
  • Each Dalit Panchayat will be prepared to deal with such issues in the future.

Each Dalit Panchayat Strives hard to build the Community in the following Dimensions:

  • Representatives in Elections
  • A Community of People
  • Our Culture is Our Politics
    • Dignity to Women
    • Land Back in the Hands of the Dalits
    • Education of Dalit children
    • Community Education
  • Revival of Dalit Instruments
  • Ban on Free Caste Labor
  • Promote Widow Remarriage
  • Democracy in the Context of Nation state
